A few days ago a fire destroyed the camp of Moria where more than 13000 people lived. Most refugees end up on the streets around Mytilene, where they are blocked by the police. They don't have access to food or drinkable water so they need our help urgently. We are gathering money to buy and prepare food for them. We have already cooked for 1000 people and will continue to do so until it is no longer necessary.
HELP! No help for severely disabled during COVID19.This post is NOT about the Coronavirus, but about how the system may withdraw help from the weakest citizens. While @Xavier Bettel promises unlimited resources to cover those who will fall out of their jobs due to COVID19, severely handicapped and the weakest citizens lose all help, regardless of their individual situation, condition and dependence.I express my gratitude towards the public initiatives during the pandemic and I am sincerely happy for those who will get financial aid in case of employment termination. So, briefly, here’s what I’m talking about:My uncle, @Martin, suffered a massive brain stroke in November 2018. The stroke was *not* threated by the Robert Schuman Hospital that Martin was taken to. Martin was left paralyzed down through his left side and with severe cognitive damages. Essentially Martin’s wife Anne and his four kids lost him that day. Martin is not even remotely the same person anymore. After being left untreated under miserable conditions at the hospital for a month, Martin was transferred to the Rehazenter. I have previously written about the conditions at the hospital and Rehazenter here: lux-patient.com, and won’t get into the details of the disastrous conditions at the two institutions.*I would however like to underline, that Martin was declared traumatized by his stay at the Rehazenter.*-> This means, that the conditions were so extremely miserable at the Rehazenter, that Martin’s condition as a patient not only declined severely, but additional damage was added to his brain.Martin received 2 months of rehabilitation in Denmark. One of the two months spent de-traumatizing him... After the two months, Martin was dispatched with a comprehensive report explaining his needs as a patient and how he should receive further treatment. The conclusion of the report is clear - Martin still needs intensive rehabilitation in order to be able to live the rest of his life at an acceptable standard. Acceptable standard defined by being able to walk or go to the toilet for example.Martin has been home in Luxembourg since August and has not received rehabilitation since then. Myself and Anne was taking care of Martin at home throughout August and September - the report *clearly* states that Martin needed help 24/7. Practically this means that he needs a team of nurses around him, as well as physiotherapists, ergo therapists, a psychologist and/or psychiatrist and a doctor with neuroscientific knowledge.Despite the urgency, we were not able to get a meeting with Assurance Dependance before October. The amount of responsibility for such a weak patient, with such needs, is beyond comprehensible. My aunt Anne is doing blood tests, regulating blood thinning medicine and all other medications for Martin. After tasting the mud of rock bottom, we at least got some help assigned by Assurance Dependence and by the end of 2019 Martin could start going to a daycare facility in Rollingergrund. *This help has been withdrawn with effect from march 17th, 2020.*Martin hasn’t had a shower for almost a week now. Martin has still not had a chance to rehabilitate. Anne is taking care of Martin 24/7, while trying to homeschool their 3/4 kids who are still in school. No help is provided.ZERO.I would like to underline, that we have not received ANY proactive help from the authorities. This includes any and all doctors we have been in touch with and the health authorities / CNS.You must fight for what you are entitled to by law and you must figure that out yourself. No guidance has been offered at ANY point since November 2018. We had to proactive ask for information about the stroke itself, the further process, what could be done etc.On top of the described problems, there’s no help to get from any authority. We have contacted every instance we could, as well as the Family minister, who referred back to the Rehazenter for help.As a patient, you have a LOT of additional expenses and the public coverage does not correspond to your normal salary, so effectively it means that you will have much less cash available. Now, one should think, that the loss of a husband and father to 4 should be more than enough to work with and that financial troubles should be the least to worry about. This is not the case in this country. Should you be as unlucky as my uncle, Martin, you WILL have a reduced income and much higher expenses. The social authorities cannot offer any help financially, as we are too well off. They recommend that we move out of the country, regardless of 3 of the 4 children being born and raised here. The banks wont extend credit as we are way too poor. The European school will not offer ANY deduction in their school fees. Changing school wouldbe incredible hard for the youngest kids and they would lose 2 years of their respective life’s due to the new language they’d need to adapt to.The insurance has covered absolutely nothing during all this. And I can list example after example. Now, what undeniably will happen, UNLESS something is being done, is that my family will be forced out of the country due to the lack of help from the government, despite contributing to the society for almost 20 years. This would mean that Anne and her 4 kids have lost their husband and father, that the kids will have to change school during their grief and give up 2 years of their life, the family will be forced to leave their home and attempt to successfully move WHILE taking care of a 24/7 patient who needs intensive rehabilitation AND homeschooling 3 kids. This isn’t possible.Let me get to my final words for this round.Imagine yourself in the same situation. Imagine that your spouse, or child, or parent suffers a massive stroke and you would have to go through the same. Imagine, if you had to see your dearest being unable to move or speak, yet being severely mistreated. Imagine loosing your home and telling your children, that they’d have to move school knowing that it costs 2 years of their lives. It’s a horrible thought... and living it is worse. We have literally tried to seek help from the authorities in ANY way possible and we don’t know how to get help at this point. Here’s what you can do to help us:* You can share this post to spread the word* Those who would like to help us financially can donate through this link: https://www.leetchi.com/c/martinveiseThe fundraiser has been requested by several friends of the family. We are forever grateful for the support that you are all giving. This is bright light during dark times. Lastly, I’d like to mention, that the during the last meeting we had with a social worker, it was proposed that we have friends or family take care of Martin on weekends, so that Anne and the KIDS?! Could work. The youngest boys are 12 years of age. We reminded her that we live in 2020 and not 1920 and she then took that back. She had absolutely no words or advice to give. This clearly suggest how dire this situation is...The above is me objectively documenting our situation. I am working on a comprehensive complaint to the court of human rights as well as the EU. This entails detailed information and documentation as well as evidence supporting the potential breaches of law.My recommendation: Hedge yourself. This is real and can happen to anyone. My sincerest gratitude and appreciation towards those who decided to help and especially those who continue to provide help!
Un GRAND MERCI :-) Your donations for MAKE-A-WISH SWITZERLANDThis year I am pursuing one of my dreams: participating in the toughest long-distance sleddog race in Europe, the Finnmarksløpet, in Norway. I would like to put this challenge I've set for myself to contribution to raise funds in order to help children fighting serious illness pursue their dream, through the charitable foundation Make-A-Wish Switzerland. Help us provide beautiful moments of joy, candidness and hope to these children! A BIG THANK YOU :-)
During the health crisis of COVID-19, the indigenous Wayuu people of Colombia, are facing a tragedy, they are not able to get enough water to survive. The people of Cabo de la Vela make a living mainly from tourism, selling handicrafts and fishing to provide fresh produce to the hotels and restaurants in the small village.During this world lockdown their livelihood is gone. No tourists sadly means no income. The families cannot pay for the tankers that deliver water to this arid region. With no access to water, such an essential life source, the lives of these communities are threatened. This concern is even greater than the coronavirus for these isolated tribes... Who are we ?Emma and Ompi, a young Franco-Colombian couple, owners of a small kitesurf school, Cabo Kite Center, in the village of Cabo de la Vela. For 2 years we have been living among the indigenous Wayùu tribe. We share the daily life of these people who are sadly forgotten by the Colombian government. Some humanitarian aid has emerged since the start of the COVID 19 quarantine but no project seems to focus on the donation of water which, for us, is absolutely essential! We initially decided to contact customers who have visited our kitesurf center in the past years in order to raise funds for the cause, then we thought of pushing the project further by creating this crowdfunding project to raise your awareness and call upon your generosity. Our project is straightforward !Raise funds to finance the distribution of water in the hamlets located around Cabo de la Vela. For those who are not familiar with the area, the village has no irrigation system.Water is supplied by tanker trucks which fill the basins where the water is stored, this is the only drinking water supply used also for washing and cooking...Some of the poorest get some water by walking long distances to reach natural pools which are also used to water their small goat farms. However an additional problem is that these pools are dry at this time of the year and the first rains do not fall until November. Still not convinced? We have teamed up with entrepreneurial friends from the region to offer you discounts on our catering services, hotels and of course courses and rentals in our kitesurfing center in return for your participation however small.Donate 20€ and receuve 15% discount in our centers.Just claim your discount by sending us a message! "Sounds good but where does my money go ?"There are 7 surrounding communities in total:Pujuru - Ishotshimana - Atutului - Kousochon - Palerü - Palamana - Aipir Each community has about 10 families with an average of two 500 litre tanks to stock water per family. The community of Ishotshimana is the biggest with approximately 30 families.A tanker truck can carry a load of 10,000 liters of water. We would therefore need a total of 9 tanker trucks to provide a week's supply of water. Each tanker truck is worth around € 100, which would correspond to a total of at least € 1.000. Hoping to be able to supply these communities at least twice, we have set our target at € 2.000.If our project is successful, a contribution of 4% will be paid to the Leetchi platform,i.e. € 2.080 to be collected in total.
Yesterday, right at the end of our two month bike packing trip in East Africa, the unthinkable happened- we were abducted in a car and robbed. It is the sort of thing you always fear in the back of your mind when you travel like we do. It is always a small possibility whenever and wherever you travel and you do your best to avoid taking risks, to be prepared. It is always a small possibility and yesterday we were the unlucky ones.We are Clare and Antoine, creators of travel website docgonewild.com and producers of travel film Pamir to Karakoram: cycling the world’s highest roads . We live for travelling. We travel mostly by bicycle, occasionally on foot, and we try to inspire others to travel and push their limits. We have travelled all over the world and count ourselves to be experience travellers. Perhaps we made an error in getting into the taxi, but when you travel like we do you must learn to trust the people you meet on your journey. We trusted our instincts and for the first time in many years we were wrong. We explain all the details of what actually happened to us over on the website, but essentially we were trapped in a car for severa hours and our captors took all our money, all our filming equipment, our camera with all our lenses and they took our cards with their pin codes to empty our bank accounts. They gave us back our passports, one telephone and -miraculously- we managed to negotiate the memory cards from all our equipment. We count ourselves extremely lucky just to have survived. We count ourselves lucky to have escaped serious injury. We are shocked and very shaken by what happened, but we are trying to remember all the many, many good experiences we have had whilst travelling which outweigh this one bad one. We are trying to remember why we travel and why we try to inspire others to do the same. In total we lost around $10,000 of cash, personal belongings and filming equipment. This represents years of investment, of scrimping and saving on our part. We lost years of Christmas presents, birthday presents and the camera lens we were given as a wedding gift last year. If you have enjoyed our website, our film or our social media content; if you are a fellow traveler who has lived through a similar situation or perhaps who counts their lucky stars to have never been in this situation then we ask to consider giving a small donation to help us replace what was stolen. We don’t have travel insurance for our belongings. Because of the length of trips that we do and the value of the equipment we just can’t afford to insure all our belongings. It would have cost almost what we lost over the years. If you are in a position to help us in this difficult moment, if you want to encourage us to continue in our travels and film-making or if you simply want to boost our faith in the goodness of humanity then we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We understand this year in particular has been difficult for everyone and you may not be in a position to give anything, if you are able to share it around you then this is super helpful too and if not then just a message to cheer us up will make all the difference too! ❣️
Community space for refugees, Ljubljana, Slovenia Ambasada Rog is a community space run for the last two years by refugees, activists, journalists, cultural workers, lawyers, unemployed, parents and everyone who believes in solidarity and the power of a community. We understand Ambasada Rog as a space of mutual support and we all work on a volunteer basis. Our work includes numerous activities: daily, we cook and provide a free meal for 20-25 people, we provide social and legal support to asylum seekers; we organize campaigns and protests, as well as educational workshops and events like exhibitions, concerts, dance classes and excursions. Since we wish to remain politically independent, we work outside the institutional framework and rely mostly on our solidarity network and our supporters. They are the ones who most effectively participate in our efforts. We invite you to become part of this network and support our work with your contribution. Any donation is welcome and it will be fully used for our activities. Most of the expenses go for cooking free meals and offering social support to migrants and asylum seekers, who are left without basic means. Our activities take place in the Autonomous Factory Rog, a former bicycle factory which has become a complex community with over fifteen active collectives and spaces. Since 2016 the space is under threat of eviction by the municipality which also filed a lawsuit against eight activists. A small part of every donation is thus also used to cover the legal expenses which allow us to continue using this space. Your support will enable us to continue with our activities - to mutually create an open community and confront our country's most inhumane policies. For all our activities please visit our Facebook page as it is the best source of daily updates and on our work. Or come visit us at Rog factory in Ljubljana! Prav vsi delujemo prostovoljno.

Good day everyone let me explain you my story and the emergency behind it Last year in November at the end of my season in Monaco, I decided to go and travel for a little while went to India and Vietnam for around three month. After my travel I decided to go and work in Trinidad and Tobago for a restaurant as a restaurant manager, due to the pandemic we had to close from the 17th of March and only reopened in mid June so already three month have passed and I have used all the money that I saved At the reopening we were glad enough to have the chance to work a little to be able to pay for our food and daily expenses, unfortunately on the 17th of August the gouvernement of Trinidad and Tobago send us for an other lockdown for 28 days. He doesn't look like we are going to be able to reopen soon. I am calling anyone that could help me to go home even 1€ could help at this time, the only way for me to go home would be with a flight that goes to Amsterdam, it goes every two weeks but the ticket is 1350£ on average, my family is not able to help me neither are my close relative This leetchi is my last solution

Bonjour a tous.
I would like to draw your attention to the current political situation that has been unfolding in Greece over the past number of years but has now reached a critical point in recent weeks. Horrendous images are emerging from the Greek/Turkish border and from the Island of Lesvos, Samos and Chios in Greece. In what appears to be the beginning of the collapse of the contentious EU-Turkey deal, last week Turkey opened its land borders whilst Greece has been rebuilt and re-enforced it's land and sea borders with direct and dire consequences for asylum-seeking communities who are now camping out alongside the border buffer zone at Greece's’ land border, a gateway to Europe. The 2016 Turkey-European Union agreement obliges Ankara to stop migrants from crossing the Aegean in exchange for financial supports. In November 2019, the Greek government announced that it was shutting down its “open” refugee camps on the Islands in order to establish “closed” detention camps. Conditions in the camps on the islands have proven to be deadly. The Moria camp with an original holding capacity of 3000, now holds a figure closer to 30,000 with inhumane conditions and a call from the UNHCR for a complete evacuation of the camp with Lesvos being described as “a floating prison” or “Europe’s Guantanamo Bay” as the Mayor of Lesvos has described it.These vulnerable communities are being used as political pawns as Turkey flexes its muscles and demonstrates a clear political message to the European Union. Reports from NGOS’s and volunteer organisations are flooding social media, stating excessive and disproportionate force is being used with Refugee/Asylum/Migrant communities and NGO organisations at the land and sea borders. Violent clashes and tensions are surmounting between Golden Dawn fascists, Greek locals, Refugee communities, NGOs, and volunteers. These tensions have triggered the closure of frontline refugee services. The Greek government has now suspended all asylum seeker applications for the month of March. A move is which is unprecedented and illegal. The criminalisation of these vulnerable communities in the name of “preserving” the European Union is nothing short of barbaric with border control measures now including shooting at rubber dinghies as they attempt to cross the seas (video footage included). I will be travelling to Greece for an extended period to work in solidarity and in partnership with several astute grassroots organisations working with Refugee/Asylum/Migrant communities in Athens and on the islands. I will be developing and delivering educational programmes with Refugee/Asylum/Migrant communities in Greece. Any funds raised; I would like to split between Lesvos with the work I will be doing with a community integration educational programme based in Athens. To keep up to date with what is going on, I recommend the following social media sites “The Aegean Sea Report” on Facebook, and “RefuComm” again on Facebook. Both groups are well established and have access to a variety of resources, sources and updates which are quite accurate. Funds raised will go towards medical supplies, blankets, food, sleeping bags, classroom necessities, whiteboard, printer, and school bags. An extended thank you to those that supported the last fundraiser for Refugee/Asylum/Migrant communities in Paris. The funds raised went towards some sleeping bags, pairs of shoes and food meals for over 100 minors. SourcesCaoimhe Butterly: Inside the refugee camp (no date). Amid the shock, pain and fear of the novel Coronavirus, Iran, one of the most affected countries by the virus, has also been suffering from crippling American and international sanctions for years. These sanctions have made thousands of local businesses vanish and reversed the previously decreasing rate of poverty in this country, endangering the livelihood of millions of Iranians. On top of the international isolation, Iranian government has been the embodiment of incompetence and discrepant statistics since the beginning of the outbreak by not shutting down pilgrim sites, offices, banks, and not quarantining the city the outbreak started from and even worse than that by mocking the international measures taken to limit the spread and misinformation campaigns on state TV that lead to the public not taking the disease seriously and continue their daily activities. Since millions are daily-waged in Iran, they suffer from biological poverty if they don’t leave home every day. By only 20 euros you can support one whole family to have acceptable quality of nutrition for a few days.We are directly connected to over fifty families and can send your support directly to them so they can supply themselves for one month without needing to work outside. Since the sanctions have made it impossible to send money to Iran, we have used our network of trusted people that are willing to help with the transaction. You can share the joy of getting through the hard times of quarantine by enabling at least one more family in a highly affected part of the world to also be able to stay safe.
Hello everyone!
Dear Family and Friends, Namaste from Dubai and Kathmandu and welcome to the "Rice for the Himalayas" money pot !With just 1-click you can contribute to this emergency fund to help the villagers of Phakding, in The Himalayas who are badly affected by the COVID pandemic.Further to the worldwide travel restrictions, tourists have cancelled their trips to the majestic Himalayas resulting in a total absence of revenue for those villages completely dependent on the economy generated by the travellers. Located in the remote areas of Nepal, they are unfortunatley neglected by their government.Let me give you a bit of background... In Summer 2018, I left for holidays in Italy and realized I had forgotten all my books expcept one "The Lonely Planet" about Nepal. Every night, I was reading relentlessly this book, dreaming and imagining the natural beauties of this country, promissing to myself to visit it very soon. In November of the same year, my grand-mother passed away and left me with a beautiful legacy. After her funerals, my family had organised a gathering to thank the people who has attended the ceremony, as per the French tradition. Among the attendees, were Mr & Mrs Lesot, friends of my parents from the same village as us and whom I knew for their generosity and passion for Nepal. I asked them about recommentations to visit Nepal and they introduced me to their adopted Nepalese son Pemba Sherpa, mountain guide, originated from the Himalayas. In December 2018, the 5 of us and my Dad visited Kathmandu and its valley, met Pemba and fell in love with this beautiful country. In April 2019, Gaspard, Paola, Jean and I travelled to Pokara, trekked for 5 days in the Annapurnas, visited many villages, safely guided by Pemba and his team. It is one of our most memorable and lovely experiences. The exploration should have continued but unfortunately the Covid pandemic surged and upended many of our projects.Today, with my friend, Pemba Sherpa, who I trust 100% for his honesty, integrity and transparency, we decided to support the people affected by the pandemic and support them with their essential needs. Our first objective is to give them access to food/rice. Thanks to this money pot, I will send the money to Pemba who will convert it into rice bags to each family in needs in his area. With just 1-click you can contribute to this emergency solidarity chain.* Give however much you want. For your information, 1 bag of 10kg rice costs 5 euros in Nepal, it is not so much for us but means so much for them.* You can chose to be anonymous.* All payments are 100% secure.* Our organization is very simple, just Pemba and I, therefore there is absolutely no waste in the redistribution of your contribution. We open this money pot till 31st december 2020, we thank you very much in advance for taking time to read this message. With love and care,Stephanie & PembaPs : The profile picture is the smile of Himalayan children when receiving the cloths of Paola.
